Tarira is a chamber choir of 20 singers based in the Faroe Islands.
Established in 2002 by skillful and experienced amateur singers Tarira soon gained a reputation for its exciting and varied programmes and its high level of singing. This has been confirmed repeatedly by highly acclaimed concert appearances in Iceland, Sweden, Denmark and in the UK.
Tarira emphasizes contemporary repertoire from the Faroe Islands and the other Nordic countries as well as renaissance repertoire.
Of all the participating choirs at the nationwide Faroese Choir festival in april 2016 Tarira won the jury’s prize for the most original, intriguing and special contribution.
Among the plans for the upcoming season are performances this October of music set to texts by Shakespeare to celebrate the 400th anniversary of his death. For this occasion Tarira has commisioned works from five different composers.
The choir has also recently been invited to take part in the production of a new stage work by the highly talented composer Tróndur Bogason to be premiered in 2018.
